Have you got debt troubles? It was reported in a Saturday paper (The Age, 30/10/04) that a judge in Britain has wiped out a couple's debt of $945,929. This was a loan "that had spiralled out of control from an original loan of $14,164". The couple, Tony and Michelle Meadows of Merseyside, "faced losing their home after they were taken to court by London North Securities for failing to keep up with repayments on their loan, which had an annual interest rate of 34.9 %." The judge ruled that the couple were no longer in debt to the finance company, with no court costs to pay. Try to imagine the relief that this couple were experiencing. The debt that threatened to cripple them for years simply disappeared. Let me remind you of God's Grace - All who put their faith in Jesus Christ have had their debt to God cancelled. The word that Paul used to sum up this debt cancellation is 'justification' - WE ARE "justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood" Romans 3:24-25 Going back to the Meadow’s debt cancellation mentioned above: Was justice done? Was it justice that satisfied both parties? If you were the finance company would you have felt happy about this decision? Do you think this company would lend the couple money again? No! But when Christ cancelled our debt he released us from our debt problem and completely restored the relationship between God and us. This is because God, as the judge, did not simply make a judgement based on a sense of fair play. He made sure that this debt was paid. God gave the full amount to purchase us out of debt. He satisfied every justice angle. God is "just, and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus." Romans 3:26 "You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly." Rom 6:6 Home | Sunday Services |
